Improvements to operations following a compliance breach
Our client is a manufacturer who was ordered – by the Environment Agency and their local water company – to make changes to their operations.
This was because their factory had discharged food waste which led to a blockage that caused a pollution in a nearby stream. They were also recharged with the costs incurred to remedy the situation.
Our team was tasked with making sure the site became compliant in line with the Water Industry Act 1991.
Key Facts
- 7 months of wastewater sampling and analysis complete
- Breaches in permits and consents detected and rectified
- 10 areas for improvement identified
- Improved collaboration with local water company
What we did for them
Impact Assessments
We delivered a comprehensive environmental impact assessment and site survey report.
Pollution Prevention
We identified several areas for improvement to prevent pollution. From an insufficiently sized grease trap to pavement cracks that could lead to ground contamination.
Compliance Recommendations
We made ten actionable environmental compliance recommendations to mitigate the impact of trade effluent leaving our client’s site and causing a pollution.
Compliance Planning
On behalf of our client, we worked with the local water company to create compliance plans for the site and revise trade effluent discharge consents.
Building a Business Case
We built a robust business case to support the installation of a Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) plant and upgrades to the site drainage network.
